12 Times Table: Chart, Tricks and Free Game

12 times table answers

The 12 times table is 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, 84, 96, 108, 120, 132, 144.

  • 12 × 1 = 12
  • 12 × 2 = 24
  • 12 × 3 = 36
  • 12 × 4 = 48
  • 12 × 5 = 60
  • 12 × 6 = 72
  • 12 × 7 = 84
  • 12 × 8 = 96
  • 12 × 9 = 108
  • 12 × 10 = 120
  • 12 × 11 = 132
  • 12 × 12 = 144

The 12s are the last table on a standard 12 × 12 chart, and they look intimidating because the answers climb into three digits. In practice, the 12s are one of the most logical tables to learn, because 12 splits neatly into 10 and 2, and both of those are easy. Twelves also show up everywhere in daily life: eggs by the dozen, inches in a foot, months in a year, hours on a clock.

Tricks for the 12 times table

1Times 10, plus times 2

Split 12 into 10 + 2. To find 12 × 7, do 10 × 7 = 70 and 2 × 7 = 14, then add: 84. For 12 × 9: 90 + 18 = 108. Both parts come from the easiest tables, so your child can work out any 12s fact even before they have memorized it.

2Double the 6s

Every 12s answer is double the matching 6s answer. If your child knows 6 × 8 = 48, then 12 × 8 is double 48: 96. This is handy for kids who are confident with doubling.

3Think in dozens

A dozen eggs is 12. Three cartons is 12 × 3 = 36 eggs. Using egg cartons (or a picture of them) gives children a real-world way to check their answers.

4Remember the endings: 2, 4, 6, 8, 0

The last digits of the 12s repeat 2, 4, 6, 8, 0, just like the 2s: 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, 84, 96, 108, 120. If your child gives an answer that ends in the wrong digit, they can spot it right away.

Patterns to spot

  • The last digits repeat 2, 4, 6, 8, 0, the same cycle as the 2s.
  • Every answer is even.
  • The 12s are double the 6s, triple the 4s and four times the 3s.
  • 12 × 12 = 144, which is the largest answer on a standard times table chart.

Common mistakes

  • 12 × 7 answered as 82 or 74. Ten sevens plus two sevens: 70 + 14 = 84.
  • 12 × 9 written as 18 or 98. Ninety plus eighteen is 108.
  • 12 × 11 answered as 122 or 1212. Split 12: 110 + 22 = 132.
  • 12 × 12 answered as 124 or 142. It is 120 + 24 = 144.

How to practice at home

  • Make sure the 10s and 2s are solid first. The main 12s strategy depends on them.
  • Work through the 12s in order once, saying the "10 plus 2" steps aloud, then switch to mixed order.
  • Use real dozens: eggs, donuts, pencils in a box.
  • Spend extra time on 12 × 7, 12 × 8, 12 × 9 and 12 × 12, which carry into three digits or are easy to misremember.
