Spelling Practice: Paste Your Weekly List

Got this week's spelling list on a crumpled sheet from the backpack? Type or paste it here, and in a few seconds you get three short games, a practice test your child types, and printable sheets for the words they miss. There is no login and no microphone, and the list never leaves your browser.

From list to practice in three steps

  • Type or paste up to 30 words. Numbers, bullets and duplicates are removed automatically.
  • Choose a game or the spelling test.
  • At the end, see what your child got right and which words need another look.

Three games and a test

  • Flash cards: read the word, then tap "I know it" or "Not yet".
  • Find the word: pick the word from look-alike tiles. No timer, and misses come back.
  • Build the word: tap or type letter tiles into slots. Wrong letters bounce back.
  • Spelling test: the device reads a word, your child types it. Near misses show as "almost".

Words are read aloud by your device's built-in voice, when it has one. If there is no built-in voice, the speaker button is hidden, so read the test words aloud yourself.

A week with your list

Spread practice out instead of cramming the night before. Try flash cards on Monday, find the word on Tuesday, build the word on Wednesday and the practice test on Thursday. Friday is test day at school, and your child has already seen every word several times.

Five to ten minutes a day is enough for most children aged 5 to 9.

What to do with misses

After the test, "Print misses" makes a look-say-cover-write-check sheet: look at the word, say it, cover it, write it from memory, then check. Focus on the part that went wrong, often just one or two letters.

An "almost" means one letter was off. Say what was right first, then fix the tricky letter together. You can also print a numbered test paper with 10 or 20 lines for a test on paper.

Private by design

Your child does not log in, the microphone is never used, and nothing is uploaded. One list can be saved on this device for free. Saving more lists and a weekly history are coming with Family Plus (see pricing). Read more in our privacy policy.
